A: The ideal setting is the highest temperature at which you feel comfortable. For many people this ranges from about 75 to 78 degrees. As a general rule of thumb, raising the thermostat setting by 2 degrees can reduce cooling costs by 5 percent.
Q: How does my air conditioner work?
A: Heat is extracted from the home by passing indoor air across a refrigerant coil. Refrigerant lines carry the heat from your home to the outdoor unit, where it is released into the outside air. A fan blows air across the chilled coils into your home. The cooling cycle continues until the indoor temperature reaches the thermostat setting.
