What’s Included With Furnace Installation?

Installing a furnace involves more than removing the old equipment and connecting a new unit. The system needs to match your home’s heating needs and work properly with existing ductwork and other HVAC components.

Heritage provides furnace installation for homes throughout New Hampshire.

Depending on your home and heating system, installation may include:

The exact installation process depends on the home, existing equipment, and furnace being installed.

What Are the Signs You Need a New Furnace?

A furnace does not need replacement every time something goes wrong. Many heating problems can be repaired.

Replacement may become a better option when:

If your furnace has stopped working, a professional inspection can help determine if repair or replacement makes more sense.

How Do You Choose the Right Furnace?

Furnace selection should be based on your home rather than simply choosing the largest system available. Equipment that is not properly matched to the house can create comfort and performance problems.

Factors that may affect furnace selection include:

New Hampshire’s climate is another important consideration. Heating equipment needs to handle long stretches of cold weather when the furnace may operate frequently.

A professional assessment can help determine the heating capacity and equipment options that fit your property.

Why Does Furnace Size Matter?

BoilA larger furnace is not automatically a better furnace.

An oversized system may heat the house quickly and shut down before completing a normal heating cycle. Frequent starting and stopping can affect comfort and place additional wear on equipment.

An undersized furnace can have the opposite problem. It may run for long periods while struggling to bring the home to the thermostat setting during cold weather.

Proper sizing helps the system provide steady heat based on the needs of the house.

What Happens During Furnace Installation?

Knowing what to expect can make replacing your heating system easier.

1. Evaluate the Existing System

A heating professional looks at your current furnace, accessible ductwork, controls, and other relevant parts of the HVAC system.

This is also a good time to discuss comfort problems, such as rooms that have always been difficult to heat.

2. Review Furnace Options

Equipment options can be considered based on your home’s heating requirements and existing setup.

Heritage provides upfront pricing so you can review the proposed installation before approving the work.

3. Remove the Existing Furnace

For replacement projects, the existing furnace is disconnected and removed as appropriate.

4. Install the New Equipment

The new furnace is positioned and connected to the required HVAC, electrical, control, and fuel components based on the system.

5. Test the Furnace

After installation, the system is operated and checked. The technician can review heating performance, airflow, controls, and other operating conditions.

FAQs

  • How do I know when to replace my furnace?

Consider the condition of the furnace, its repair history, heating performance, and the cost of the work it currently needs. Frequent breakdowns or difficulty heating the home can make replacement worth discussing

  • How is the right furnace size determined?

Home size is only one factor. Insulation, windows, layout, air leakage, ductwork, and other conditions can affect heating requirements. A professional evaluation helps determine appropriate equipment capacity.

  • Can I replace my furnace before it stops working?

Yes. Planning replacement before a complete breakdown can give you more time to compare equipment and schedule installation, especially if your current furnace is aging or needs increasingly frequent repairs.

  • Does a new furnace work with my existing ductwork?

It may. Existing ductwork should be evaluated as part of the installation process. Its size, layout, condition, and airflow can affect how the new furnace performs.

  • When is a good time to replace a furnace in New Hampshire?

A furnace can be replaced whenever necessary, but planning before the coldest part of winter can help reduce the chance of an unexpected loss of heat. If your current furnace is showing repeated problems, scheduling an evaluation before winter is a practical option.

When my AC quit suddenly, Heritage came in a timely fashion and did an excellent job. The four gentlemen who helped me were professional and knowledgeable. Joe diagnosed the problem and was very thorough in explaining the cost of repair versus replacement. Bobby, Harrison and the electrician Liam did the replacement and were wonderful to work with. They explained the process carefully, answered all my questions and completed the job efficiently and quickly. I would certainly call the company again for any HVAC, plumbing or electrical needs. Thanks Heritage!

First time using Heritage, as two other plumbers I’ve used in the past gave me long lead times. Heritage answered my call personally, and scheduled me same day-amazing considering it was a Saturday! I had a leaking outdoor spigot, and given the drought, waiting a week to fix it was out of the question. The technician sent out, James Shallow, could not have been more professional, knowledgeable and personable. He showed up on time, did the job seamlessly and without issue. He spent time educating us as to how to avoid this problem in the future, and it was a genuinely pleasant experience. I will most definitely use & recommend Heritage again (request Jimmy).

Alex came to fix a water main leak at my home which was pre-manufactured in the late eighties. He found and fixed the leak quickly. After the job was complete I spoke with him about the cause because this is the third time in a year with a leak. He spent the time with me explaining the material used for piping in my place and checked the water pressure. The pressure was on the high end and we both concluded between pressure spikes and old plastic pipes. I asked for an estimate to replace all the pipes. He was able to give me an estimate on the spot and found financing with very reasonable terms. Two days later Heritage Home Services was here with two trucks and completely changed out the piping in a day. In short. This place answers the phone. Gets technician on the job quickly. Great knowledge. Cleaned thoroughly before leaving.

I’ve dealt with Heritage for many years because of their dependability. They are not the cheapest, for sure, but if you need a plumbing or HVAC system installed or serviced/repaired, there’s none better. I needed repairs to be done on slim duct covers that were damaged after having siding installed on my home. I called Heritage because they were the company that installed the original mini-split system in my house several years earlier. John Lindonen and another technician (unfortunately, I don’t remember his name) showed up as committed and did the repair work. They were very thorough, explaining every issue to me and answered all of my questions. They were polite, and extremely knowledgeable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these guys to my family or friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are common signs my air conditioner needs repair?

Common signs include warm air blowing from the vents, weak airflow, unusual grinding or squealing noises, frequent cycling on and off, water leaks around the unit, or a noticeable increase in your electric bill. If you experience any of these, contact Heritage for a diagnosis.

  • Does Heritage repair all brands of air conditioners?

Yes, Heritage technicians are trained and equipped to repair all major air conditioner brands and models, including central air systems, heat pumps, and ductless units. We carry common parts on our trucks to complete many repairs in a single visit.

  • How much does air conditioner repair cost in New Hampshire?

Repair costs depend on the nature of the problem, ranging from simple fixes like a capacitor replacement to more involved repairs like a compressor or refrigerant leak fix. Heritage provides an upfront diagnosis and transparent pricing before beginning any work.

  • Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?

If your AC is over 10 to 15 years old, uses R-22 refrigerant, or the repair cost is more than half the price of a new system, replacement is usually the smarter financial choice. Heritage can help you evaluate your options and recommend the most cost-effective path forward.

  • How can I prevent air conditioner breakdowns?

Regular maintenance is the best prevention, including changing filters monthly during cooling season, keeping the outdoor unit clear of debris, and scheduling annual professional maintenance. Heritage offers maintenance services to keep your system running reliably through New Hampshire’s summers.
