What’s Included With Ductless Mini-Split Installation?

A ductless mini-split uses an outdoor unit connected to one or more indoor units. Instead of moving conditioned air through ducts, each indoor unit delivers heating or cooling directly to the space it serves.

Heritage provides ductless mini-split installation for New Hampshire homes.

Depending on your home and the system selected, installation may include:

The exact setup depends on the size and layout of your home, the number of areas you want to condition, and your existing heating and cooling equipment.

What Are the Signs a Mini-Split Could Be Right for Your Home?

Ductless systems can solve comfort problems that are difficult to address with a traditional central HVAC system. They are particularly useful when installing or extending ductwork would require major changes to the house.

A mini-split may be worth considering if:

Older New Hampshire homes are one common application. Many were built before central air conditioning became standard, making ductless equipment an option for adding cooling without installing ducts throughout the property.Older New Hampshire homes are one common application. Many were built before central air conditioning became standard, making ductless equipment an option for adding cooling without installing ducts throughout the property.

How Does a Ductless Mini-Split Work?

A mini-split transfers heat instead of creating it through combustion. During summer, the system moves heat from inside your home to the outdoors. In heating mode, the process is reversed so heat is transferred into the home.

Each system has an outdoor unit and at least one indoor unit. Refrigerant lines connect the two components through a relatively small opening in the exterior wall.

This design eliminates the need for large supply and return ducts.

Many systems can also serve more than one area. A multi-zone setup connects several indoor units to an outdoor system, giving homeowners more control over temperatures in individual rooms or sections of the house.

Single-Zone or Multi-Zone Mini-Split?

The right configuration depends on how much of your home needs heating and cooling.

A single-zone system typically serves one room or defined area. It may work well for:

A multi-zone system uses multiple indoor units to serve several areas. This option may make sense when you want ductless heating and cooling in a larger portion of the home.

System sizing still matters in both cases. More capacity is not automatically better. Equipment should be selected according to the heating and cooling needs of the areas it will serve.

Can Mini-Splits Heat a New Hampshire Home?

Many ductless mini-splits are heat pumps, which means they can provide both cooling and heating. This makes them useful beyond New Hampshire’s summer cooling season.

The amount of heating a particular system can provide depends on the equipment, outdoor conditions, home insulation, system sizing, and other factors.

Some homeowners use mini-splits as their primary heating and cooling equipment. Others use them to supplement an existing furnace, boiler, or other heating system.

A professional evaluation can help determine how a proposed system fits into your home’s overall heating needs, especially during periods of very cold New Hampshire weather.

Why Does Professional Mini-Split Installation Matter?

Installation involves several specialized tasks, including:

Poor installation can contribute to comfort problems, drainage issues, equipment strain, or reduced performance.

Heritage’s HVAC professionals can evaluate your home and plan the installation around its layout and heating and cooling needs.n.

FAQs

  • Do ductless mini-splits need ductwork?

No. Mini-splits deliver conditioned air directly from indoor units, so they do not require a traditional system of supply and return ducts.

  • Can a mini-split both heat and cool my home?

Many ductless mini-splits are heat pump systems that provide both heating and cooling. The appropriate setup depends on the equipment, your home’s needs, and local winter conditions.

  • Can I install mini-splits in several rooms?

Yes. Multi-zone systems can use several indoor units to serve different rooms or areas. A professional can determine how many zones and what equipment capacity your home requires.

  • Where can indoor mini-split units be installed?

Placement depends on the room layout, exterior access, airflow needs, drainage, and the system being installed. The goal is to position each unit where it can effectively condition the intended space.

  • Are mini-splits good for older New Hampshire homes?

They can be. Older homes without existing ductwork are a common application because mini-splits can provide heating and cooling without installing a full duct system. The home should still be evaluated to determine the right equipment and configuration.

When my AC quit suddenly, Heritage came in a timely fashion and did an excellent job. The four gentlemen who helped me were professional and knowledgeable. Joe diagnosed the problem and was very thorough in explaining the cost of repair versus replacement. Bobby, Harrison and the electrician Liam did the replacement and were wonderful to work with. They explained the process carefully, answered all my questions and completed the job efficiently and quickly. I would certainly call the company again for any HVAC, plumbing or electrical needs. Thanks Heritage!

First time using Heritage, as two other plumbers I’ve used in the past gave me long lead times. Heritage answered my call personally, and scheduled me same day-amazing considering it was a Saturday! I had a leaking outdoor spigot, and given the drought, waiting a week to fix it was out of the question. The technician sent out, James Shallow, could not have been more professional, knowledgeable and personable. He showed up on time, did the job seamlessly and without issue. He spent time educating us as to how to avoid this problem in the future, and it was a genuinely pleasant experience. I will most definitely use & recommend Heritage again (request Jimmy).

Alex came to fix a water main leak at my home which was pre-manufactured in the late eighties. He found and fixed the leak quickly. After the job was complete I spoke with him about the cause because this is the third time in a year with a leak. He spent the time with me explaining the material used for piping in my place and checked the water pressure. The pressure was on the high end and we both concluded between pressure spikes and old plastic pipes. I asked for an estimate to replace all the pipes. He was able to give me an estimate on the spot and found financing with very reasonable terms. Two days later Heritage Home Services was here with two trucks and completely changed out the piping in a day. In short. This place answers the phone. Gets technician on the job quickly. Great knowledge. Cleaned thoroughly before leaving.

I’ve dealt with Heritage for many years because of their dependability. They are not the cheapest, for sure, but if you need a plumbing or HVAC system installed or serviced/repaired, there’s none better. I needed repairs to be done on slim duct covers that were damaged after having siding installed on my home. I called Heritage because they were the company that installed the original mini-split system in my house several years earlier. John Lindonen and another technician (unfortunately, I don’t remember his name) showed up as committed and did the repair work. They were very thorough, explaining every issue to me and answered all of my questions. They were polite, and extremely knowledgeable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these guys to my family or friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are common signs my air conditioner needs repair?

Common signs include warm air blowing from the vents, weak airflow, unusual grinding or squealing noises, frequent cycling on and off, water leaks around the unit, or a noticeable increase in your electric bill. If you experience any of these, contact Heritage for a diagnosis.

  • Does Heritage repair all brands of air conditioners?

Yes, Heritage technicians are trained and equipped to repair all major air conditioner brands and models, including central air systems, heat pumps, and ductless units. We carry common parts on our trucks to complete many repairs in a single visit.

  • How much does air conditioner repair cost in New Hampshire?

Repair costs depend on the nature of the problem, ranging from simple fixes like a capacitor replacement to more involved repairs like a compressor or refrigerant leak fix. Heritage provides an upfront diagnosis and transparent pricing before beginning any work.

  • Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?

If your AC is over 10 to 15 years old, uses R-22 refrigerant, or the repair cost is more than half the price of a new system, replacement is usually the smarter financial choice. Heritage can help you evaluate your options and recommend the most cost-effective path forward.

  • How can I prevent air conditioner breakdowns?

Regular maintenance is the best prevention, including changing filters monthly during cooling season, keeping the outdoor unit clear of debris, and scheduling annual professional maintenance. Heritage offers maintenance services to keep your system running reliably through New Hampshire’s summers.
