One of the most appealing parts of living in Maine is experiencing all four seasons. From the gentle spring season to the splendor of colors in fall, the constant changes of the year make living in the Northeast an incredible experience. The summer season is often overlooked for the heat and how much stress it can put on your air conditioner when keeping your home comfortable. If your air conditioning unit hasn’t been serviced in the last year, it could create bigger problems, leaving you sweltering throughout the summer.

While open windows can bring a little relief, it’s not the same as refreshing air conditioning helping you relax when the weather gets hot. The trusted technicians at Heritage Home Service can help you ensure your HVAC system works perfectly when you need it the most. With over 35 years of experience, our air conditioning services in Maine range from an annual cleaning, inspection, and maintenance, to unexpected repairs when your system goes down.

FAQs

  • Maine AC Repairs

Having your air conditioning go down during the hot summer months is a frustration no homeowner wants to deal with. Not only is your family uncomfortable, but the heat can also affect pets and your health as well. High temperatures and moisture encourage mold growth and can exacerbate underlying conditions.

What causes an air conditioner to break in Maine? Some of the most common issues you may face include:

    • Outdoor condenser wiring damaged by mice, rats, or other rodents.
    • Majorly clogged filtration systems from a lack of cleaning.
    • Winter falling ice damage to outdoor condensers.
    • Lawn clippings and leaf buildup on outdoor coil fins.
    • Broken capacitors
    • Broken fan motors

If you don’t feel like your air conditioner is working quite right, or if you’re running it harder to keep it cool compared to previous summers, it might be time to get your system maintained. Call the experts at Heritage – our team can come out on short notice, determine what the problem is, go over all of your options, and help you make the right decision for your situation.

  • AC Maintenance in Maine

Like any piece of machinery – such as your car or a lawnmower – your home air conditioner needs to be maintained on a regular basis. Having an expert technician open your air conditioner to clean out debris, check on its condition, and make sure everything is running well is an important investment in your home comfort every year. Before the summer season gets into full swing, having your air conditioning system worked on is a crucial move.

It’s important to note that there’s a difference between air conditioner maintenance and “recharging” an air conditioner. The term “recharging” suggests that an air conditioner is losing refrigerant from regular use every year. A properly maintained and working air conditioning system is a “closed loop” system, which does not need a refrigerant recharge unless there is a leak in the coils. Regular maintenance can help you identify if there’s a leak or other problem, which may prevent major repairs or replacement in the future.

  • Maine Air Conditioning Installation

Air conditioning units don’t last forever. A modern air conditioner can last for 15 to 20 years before needing replacement. Considering all the work it does every summer, such as cooling your home to a comfortable temperature each summer and removing excess moisture from the air, it’s important to consider all of the factors that go into your next air conditioning system. Is it more important to shop by the name brand, or is making sure you’re working with a trusted installer the right first step?

With Heritage, you won’t have to sacrifice one for the other. Our expert technicians are trained and continually educated on all the latest technology and air conditioning systems, and are certified to work on nearly every air conditioner out there today. If your air conditioner needs to be replaced, we can take care of everything from ordering the unit, handling city permits (where necessary), and getting it installed right the first time.

  • Maine Mitsubishi Air Conditioners

Heritage Home Service is a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer, which means we are experts in installing one of the best ductless air conditioning systems in your home. If you live in a home that doesn’t have existing ductwork and are afraid you may not be able to get reliable air conditioning, think again. A Mitsubishi ductless system can give you the same control and comfort of a full air conditioning system throughout the summer. Upgrade to a Hyper Heat system and get the full range of cooling and healing for your full home.

  • Lower Your Cooling Costs in Maine

Even with an efficient home air conditioning system, it’s important to understand how much energy you are using, and how it affects your budget. Running an air conditioner all summer long can cause your energy usage to spike, resulting in significantly higher bills. Here are some tips from the experts on how to keep your costs down.

    • Replace your air filters: Changing your air filters every 90 days – only four times per year – can improve air flow and help your air conditioner operate efficiently. A dirty air filter can force your system to work harder, resulting in higher temperatures and increased bills.
    • Keep your thermostat at a reasonable temperature: Although everyone appreciates a comfortable home, you aren’t necessarily home every hour of every day. Keeping your thermostat at a reasonable temperature – and increasing it by a couple of degrees when you aren’t home – can go a long way towards reducing your bills.
    • Cover your windows during the day: You may not realize it, but direct sunlight radiates heat into your home, raising temperatures and forcing your air conditioner to work harder. By closing your windows and covering them with blinds and curtains at the hottest part of the day, you can keep your house cool and reduce the wear on your system.
    • Plug leaks from doors and windows: Just as drafty doors and windows can let the cold in during the winter, leaks from doors and windows can leak cold air during the summer, forcing your air conditioner to run longer. Plugging any drafts from doors and windows can reduce leaks, keeping your home more comfortable without using excessive energy.

Called on a Thursday with an active leak…actually a drip…found by luck on the cellar floor. Vinny showed up less than 24 hours later, and after diagnosing the issue found the problem. It wasn’t what I thought, but his perseverance paid big time dividends. On a Friday early evening Vinny made a trip to a Home Depot 30 minutes away, and when he returned the problem was solved in 30 minutes. Heritage upgraded our electrical system from 100 amp to 200 amp, and installed a whole house generator for us during the winter, so we were very familiar with the company. I can’t say enough good things about their workmanship, their customer service, and their professional employees. I would be pleased to have Vinny come back should the need arise. He was great!!
