Heritage wants to help you feel confident in your water, and get the knowledge you need to address any potential water quality issues you may have.  But with all the information out there, it can sometimes feel overwhelming knowing where to start.  To help, our expert Well and Water Quality team has created the following FAQ to address the basic facts of water quality:

Why is having clean water in your home important?

A large portion of home’s in the Northeast receive their water from a private well.  Unlike treated town water, the only treatment your well water receives is what you have installed in your home.  Common contaminants like arsenic, lead, and radon can all be found in New England water supplies.  Overtime, exposure to contaminants can cause long-term illness and complications to your health.

Besides being safer for you and your family to use, many water treatment systems can also be good for your home’s appliances and things like your hot water heater.  Common issues like high acidity (low pH), hardness, and iron content can all damage and decrease the lifespan of appliances, plumbing fixtures, and more.

What signs do I see in my home to know if my water is bad?

Many contaminants in your water can go unnoticed until the effects of exposure make you sick.  Things like harmful radon are tasteless and odorless, and can only be detected by a water test.  Other times, you may notice a strange taste or smell to your water, often accompanied by staining in your plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets.  Simply put, the best way to know is to test.  The EPA states homeowners should have their water tested annually to ensure that any treatment system installed in the home has you covered. 

What water filtration options does Heritage offer? Breakdown of each type?

Arsenic Filtration – Can mitigate and eliminate arsenic from your water.

How long does a water test take?

We can conduct a test on most in-home visits with one of our licensed plumbers.  These will give results same-day for things like mineral content, hardness, pH, alkalinity, and more.  A lab test can also be ordered which takes about 2-weeks.  This will give you more in depth information about your water quality and will be emailed directly to you from the lab.  One of our Heritage water quality experts will then discuss your results with you and give options on how to proceed.

How long does it take to get a water filtration system installed?

This can depend on the current availability of the equipment your home needs, but most systems can be up and running in as little as 48 hours from the time of your consultation to completed installation.

What if I can’t afford a water filtration system but I need one?

We understand that water quality is an important investment in your family’s health.  Heritage customers have access to competitive financing options through our preferred lender, Greensky.  Your rates and eligibility are subject to credit approval.
