FAQs

  • Types of Air Conditioning Units We Install

Every household has unique needs, which is why we offer a broad range of high-quality air conditioning options. When you contact Heritage for an AC estimate, we’ll arrange a free consultation with a project manager to create a tailored solution for your home. If you decide to move forward with the installation, we can usually set up your new system the very next day.

We install all makes and models of residential air conditioning equipment, such as:

  • Choosing the Right Air Conditioner for Your Home

When it’s time for a new air conditioner, it’s important to work with a highly-qualified, knowledgeable team. Heritage’s HVAC technicians are fully licensed and trained so that your AC installation is completed properly. Our installation process always begins with a free consultation.
During your appointment, an expert will inspect your home and make recommendations based on these factors:

Your current AC system: Most people install the same type of system they had previously, but you may want to consider something new if your current AC is not working for you.

How much and how often you use your AC: If you use your AC all day, every day, we’ll recommend a unit that can handle that workload. If you only use your AC sporadically, we can offer other solutions that may cost less and still keep you cool when you need it.

The size of your home: More square footage means you’ll need a larger air conditioner, but we can provide other options, too. You may want separate units for different floors or a ductless AC system so you don’t have to cool the entire house at once.

Ductwork: Roughly one in three houses in New Hampshire were built before 1960, meaning that many homes don’t have existing ductwork. In these cases, we typically recommend ductless AC systems which are much faster and easier to install.

How much you care about energy efficiency: Energy-efficient air conditioners are better for the planet and cheaper to operate. When looking at high-efficiency options, we can calculate how much savings you stand to earn on energy costs.

Budget: We never want cooling your home to be financially stressful. Our team will work with you to find a cooling solution you can afford, or we can direct you to financing options so you can get what you need.

  • How Do I Know When My AC Needs to Be Replaced?

We get this question a lot, for good reason! Most people want to keep their air conditioners for as long as possible, but running your system into the ground isn’t always worth it. Here’s what we look for when helping homeowners decide whether to keep or replace their air conditioner.

    • Age of AC unit: Most units are designed to last somewhere between 10 and 20 years. If yours is within this age range, it’s time to start thinking about a replacement. We can test it to see how well it’s working, then talk to you about your best options.
    • Size of current AC: Is your current system the right size for your home? If it’s too big or too small, it won’t work the way you need it to. Replacement is usually the best option.
    • Performance decline: Over time, air conditioners lose their ability to efficiently keep your home cool. Air conditioners that don’t receive yearly maintenance tend to malfunction more often, increase your energy bill, and need replacing sooner.
    • Cost and frequency of repairs: Sometimes repairs actually cost more than a new unit would. Other times, small repairs start to add up. If your AC is in need of repair or you have done several repairs in the last few months, the cost of a replacement may be the best decision for your finances and peace of mind.
  • Repairing vs. Replacing Your Air Conditioner

There are many AC myths out there, like the idea of needing to “top off” or “recharge” your AC system every year. But here’s the truth: AC systems need all connections and refrigerant lines sealed tight to function properly. Low refrigerant levels usually means there is a leak. While this can sometimes be spot repaired, numerous leaks (especially in critical components like the condenser coil) usually means that it’s time to replace your AC system.

If you find your AC struggling to cool your home or not working as well as before, our licensed HVAC technicians at Heritage can figure out if it needs repair or replacement. Whatever condition your system is in, our technicians will go over all the recommended options with you, so you can make the best choice for your situation.

  • The Benefits of Installing a New Air Conditioner

    • Higher Efficiency: When you’ve had the same air conditioner for 10-20 years, installing a new model can be a huge improvement! Air conditioners manufactured now are more energy-efficient than ever before, which is better for the planet and your energy bill.
    • Better Performance: In addition to monthly savings on your energy bill, a new air conditioner will save you from the stress and cost of unexpected repair calls. With annual maintenance, your new air conditioner should be run without problems for many years.
    • Improved Air Quality: Your air conditioner doesn’t just keep your home cool – it also removes humidity, provides ventilation, and helps filter the air. Your new AC can also be installed with IAQ products such as UV lamps and whole-home dehumidifiers.
    • Smart Home Integrations: If convenience is important to you, you have the opportunity to install a smart thermostat or zoning system along with your new AC. These upgrades enhance the convenience and personalization of your HVAC system to maximize home comfort.
    • Rebates & Tax Credits: When you purchase a high-efficiency HVAC system, water heater, or electrical upgrade, you could save thousands of dollars in tax credits and rebates. Just ask us which products qualify, and we can help you take advantage of these programs.

When my AC quit suddenly, Heritage came in a timely fashion and did an excellent job. The four gentlemen who helped me were professional and knowledgeable. Joe diagnosed the problem and was very thorough in explaining the cost of repair versus replacement. Bobby, Harrison and the electrician Liam did the replacement and were wonderful to work with. They explained the process carefully, answered all my questions and completed the job efficiently and quickly. I would certainly call the company again for any HVAC, plumbing or electrical needs. Thanks Heritage!

First time using Heritage, as two other plumbers I’ve used in the past gave me long lead times. Heritage answered my call personally, and scheduled me same day-amazing considering it was a Saturday! I had a leaking outdoor spigot, and given the drought, waiting a week to fix it was out of the question. The technician sent out, James Shallow, could not have been more professional, knowledgeable and personable. He showed up on time, did the job seamlessly and without issue. He spent time educating us as to how to avoid this problem in the future, and it was a genuinely pleasant experience. I will most definitely use & recommend Heritage again (request Jimmy).

Alex came to fix a water main leak at my home which was pre-manufactured in the late eighties. He found and fixed the leak quickly. After the job was complete I spoke with him about the cause because this is the third time in a year with a leak. He spent the time with me explaining the material used for piping in my place and checked the water pressure. The pressure was on the high end and we both concluded between pressure spikes and old plastic pipes. I asked for an estimate to replace all the pipes. He was able to give me an estimate on the spot and found financing with very reasonable terms. Two days later Heritage Home Services was here with two trucks and completely changed out the piping in a day. In short. This place answers the phone. Gets technician on the job quickly. Great knowledge. Cleaned thoroughly before leaving.

I’ve dealt with Heritage for many years because of their dependability. They are not the cheapest, for sure, but if you need a plumbing or HVAC system installed or serviced/repaired, there’s none better. I needed repairs to be done on slim duct covers that were damaged after having siding installed on my home. I called Heritage because they were the company that installed the original mini-split system in my house several years earlier. John Lindonen and another technician (unfortunately, I don’t remember his name) showed up as committed and did the repair work. They were very thorough, explaining every issue to me and answered all of my questions. They were polite, and extremely knowledgeable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these guys to my family or friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What type of air conditioning system is best for my New Hampshire home?

The best system depends on your home’s layout, existing ductwork, and cooling needs. Heritage installs central air systems for homes with ductwork and ductless mini-split systems for homes without, and we will recommend the most efficient and cost-effective option for your situation.

  • How long does air conditioning installation take?

A typical central air conditioning installation takes 1 to 2 days, depending on whether your home has existing ductwork and the complexity of the setup. Heritage works efficiently to get your new system up and running with minimal disruption.

  • What size air conditioner do I need for my home?

Proper sizing requires a professional load calculation that factors in your home’s square footage, insulation, window area, and orientation. An oversized or undersized unit leads to poor comfort and higher energy bills, which is why Heritage performs a thorough assessment before recommending a system.

  • How much does air conditioning installation cost in New Hampshire?

Installation costs vary based on the system type, size, efficiency rating, and any necessary modifications to your ductwork or electrical system. Contact Heritage for a free in-home estimate with transparent, upfront pricing.

  • Are there rebates available for new air conditioning systems in New Hampshire?

Yes, there are often manufacturer rebates and utility incentives available for installing high-efficiency air conditioning systems. Heritage stays current on all available programs and will help you take advantage of any rebates or tax credits you qualify for.
